Automation Engineer

Strong working knowledge and experience with PLC and HMI programming, robotics, machine vision, sensors, drives, motors, pneumatics, and other electro-mechanical systems.

Provide in-depth machine control programming, machine vision programming and troubleshooting for new and existing automation equipment.

Identifies opportunities to improve quality and efficiency of the manufacturing process.

Design quality engineered solutions that meet customer’s needs, meet or beat budget constraints, and allow for efficient manufacturing.

Assist in designing, building, and implementing new automation equipment.

Modify existing automation equipment for continuous improvement.

Maintain awareness and control of project cost, quality, scope, and schedule to ensure on-time delivery of the project within budget.

Prepares applicable electronic design drawings and prints using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software. Preferably SolidWorks or AutoCAD.

Participate in continuous improvement efforts, corrective action formulation, and root-cause investigation.

Identify and research advancements in processes, equipment, software, and hardware to support cost reductions and improve quality and efficiency.

Participate in design reviews as required and requested by the Engineering team.

The hands-on building of machinery and components utilizing equipment such as mill, lathe, etc. a plus.

Develop and prepares quotations for automation equipment and upgrades to existing equipment. To include cost evaluation and return on investment (ROI) estimates.

Provide technical support for automation equipment and communicate effectively with operators and maintenance to resolve equipment issues.

Support Management and report all findings on jobs that would affect costs, schedules, employees, or customers.

Ensure automation equipment meets all safety and environmental standards.

Assists in performing Preventative Maintenance (PM) and calibrations of existing equipment.

Develop and execute validation protocols for automation equipment. This includes Installation, Operation, and Performance Qualifications (IQ, OQ, PQ).

Develop work instructions and procedures and train operators to effectively operate the equipment.

Follows good documentation practices to ensure documentation is clear, correct, and understandable.

Develop and maintain relationships with outside suppliers.

Assist in assuring that customer commitments are met and provide Subject Material Expert (SME) support in communications to the customer.

Prepare interim and final status reports of engineering activities and projects.

Education and/Or Experience:

Background in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related field desired.

BS in Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering is required.

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a related field.

Required Experience:

Knowledge of machine control and machine vision.

Preferred Experience:

Knowledge of CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.)

Knowledge of cGMP and validation (IQ/OQ/PQ) requirements.

High volume medical device manufacturing experience, working with the FDA.
